The most common causes of an AC that runs but won't cool
1. Low refrigerant (a leak)
Refrigerant is the working fluid that carries heat out of your home. It is not "used up" — a system that is low has a leak, usually at a flare joint, a corroded coil, or a valve. With less refrigerant, the coil can't absorb enough heat, discharge air warms up, and you may see ice on the indoor coil or copper pipe. Topping up without finding the leak is a temporary fix that fails again within weeks. This needs proper leak detection, repair, evacuation and a weighed-in recharge.
2. A dirty or blocked condenser coil
This is the single most common cause in Qatar. The outdoor coil rejects your building's heat, and when its fins clog with dust, sand and lint, it can't. Head pressure climbs, efficiency collapses, and on the worst days the compressor trips on high pressure. If your outdoor unit is caked in dust or tucked into a hot, unventilated corner, this is very likely your problem.
3. Restricted airflow — filter, evaporator or ducts
Cooling capacity depends on enough air passing over the indoor (evaporator) coil. A clogged filter, a dirty evaporator, a blocked drain pan, or collapsed/leaky ducts all starve that airflow. 4. Compressor, capacitor or contactor failure
The compressor is the heart of the system.
